TAX DISPUTES AND RELIEF
COVID Benefit Over-payments
CRA has decided you were not eligible for CERB, CRB, CRSB, CRCB or the lockdown benefit, and wants the money back. I look at whether the decision can still be challenged, whether the debt is still collectable at all, and what to do about collections in the meantime.
Notice of Objections
CRA has reassessed you and you think it got the numbers wrong. An objection is the formal way to make CRA look at the file again, and the deadline is short, usually 90 days from the notice. I review the reassessment, build the record, and file the objection before the window closes.
Taxpayer Relief: Penalties and Interest
A tax debt has grown well past the tax itself. Taxpayer relief asks CRA to cancel the penalties and the interest where illness, a family crisis, a financial inability to pay, or CRA’s own delay is behind the arrears.
Voluntary Disclosures
You have income, a return or a GST/HST filing that was never reported, and CRA has not contacted you about it yet. The Voluntary Disclosures Program can cancel penalties and part of the interest if you come forward first. I assess whether you qualify and prepare the application.
